Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple plans to delay the release of iPadOS 16 by about a month without releasing it at the same time as the new iPhone software.

The last iPad and iPhone software updates - iOS and iPadOS - were released at the same time - in September. However, iPadOS will be released later as Apple redesigns the iPad's multitasking capabilities.

The delay is due to the incompleteness of the new Stage Manager feature, which allows users to perform multiple tasks at once, resize windows and switch between groups of apps. Developers and users noticed bugs, a confusing interface and a lack of compatibility with most iPads during beta testing.

According to Gurman, the rescheduling will bring the release of iPadOS 16 closer to the launch of the new iPad hardware. The company is planning an updated iPad Pro with an M2 chip, as well as a faster entry-level iPad with a USB-C port.

In addition to Stage Manager, the iPadOS 16 update will add new Mac-like controls for productivity apps and a built-in weather app. However, according to Apple, some of the features planned for iPadOS 16 will not appear in their original versions.
