The MENA region registered an average total data breach cost of $7.45 million between March 2021 and March 2022, a new report from IBM has revealed.

According to IBM Security’s annual Cost of a Data Breach Report, the Middle East ranked second on the list of data breach losses after the US. Based on an in-depth analysis of real-world data breaches experienced by 550 organizations worldwide, the study reveals one of the most representative statistics for data breaches in the world.

The financial sector was among the most affected sectors by data breaches in the Middle East, followed by health and energy.

In an interview to Durov's Code, Samer Malak from Kaspersky Lab said that it is the government sector that is the most exposed to cyberattacks in the MENA region, followed by finance, e-commerce and retail industries.

We are also seeing increasing attacks on critical infrastructure of heavy industries like manufacturing, oil and mining, chemicals and so on,
