Tesla has released production and delivery figures for the third quarter of 2022, reporting 343,000 electric vehicles shipped and 365,000 vehicles produced.

Both figures were a record for the company, but slightly disappointed analysts who had predicted shipments averaging 359,162 electric vehicles over the past three months.

Tesla faced pandemic-related disruptions in the second quarter, but by the third quarter, the company managed to increase production capacity, resulting in record shipments and production.

During the third quarter, Tesla built 365,923 electric cars. This represents a production increase of almost 54% for the year, compared to Tesla's production of 237,823 vehicles in Q3 2021. Compared to Q2, production was up 41.5 per cent when the carmaker produced 258,580 vehicles.

In the third quarter, the company produced 19,935 Model S and Model X cars and delivered 18,672 vehicles, while the Model 3 and Model Y were produced at 345,988 units. Tesla says it managed to deliver 343,830 vehicles in the third quarter, its highest quarterly total to date.

Tesla built about 20,000 more vehicles than it was able to deliver in the third quarter. In a statement, the company said:

As our production volumes continue to grow, it is becoming increasingly challenging to secure vehicle transportation capacity and at a reasonable cost during these peak logistics weeks.
