Bloomberg insider Mark Gurman in his latest weekly Power On newsletter has reported that Apple’s presentation will come earlier than usual in 2022.

Gurman said the company plans to announce the iPhone 14 at an event on September 7, which is the earliest iPhone launch since 2016. The device itself will go on sale on 16 September, about a week earlier than last year.

Gurman says that the presentation will take place online, as it did during the pandemic, but the company may also hold a live video demonstration for journalists at its campus. Journalists would then be able to explore the new devices after the presentation, as they did with the MacBook Air in June.

The earlier-than-usual launch date for the new devices means several things according to Gurman: Apple will get an extra week of iPhone 14 sales in the fiscal fourth quarter, which runs through September; Apple's supply chain is still working well, at least when it comes to iPhones; and Apple wants to make room before the second event, scheduled for October.

In addition to the iPhone 14, Gurman is expecting an updated iPad Pro with an M2 processor and an upgraded entry-level iPad with an A14 chip and USB-C port. As for the new Mac mini, Mac Pro and M2-based MacBook Pro, they will be presented about two months.

Additionally, Gurman reports that Apple engineers completed the development of the initial version of iOS 16 last week, which likely means that Apple is not planning any new features or changes in the remaining iOS 16 betas and will focus on bug fixes in the final weeks before publicly releasing the update.

iOS 16 and watchOS 9 are scheduled for release in September alongside the new iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8 models, while iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura are expected to be released in October, according to him.

Gurman wonders when Apple will announce a presentation on 7 September. Gurman assumes it will be between 29 and 31 August.
