In mid-August 2022, Mark Zuckerberg posted a screenshot of his VR avatar with the Eiffel Tower and Barcelona's Sagrada Familia in the Horizon Worlds, after which he was mocked.

Users were taken aback by the low resolution and amateurish look of the screenshot, given the company's huge spending on the metaverse.

Zuckerberg conceded a few days later that the image he had shared earlier was “pretty basic” and said Meta developers were preparing a "major update" to VR graphics. He showed two screenshots as examples. One shows Zuckerberg's own avatar, while the other demonstrates an open scene depicting an ancient ruin.

Zuckerberg wrote:

I know the photo I posted earlier this week was pretty basic - it was taken very quickly to celebrate a launch. The graphics in Horizon are capable of much more - even on headsets - and Horizon is improving very quickly.
