LastPass, a password manager used by more than 33 million people, has fallen victim to a hacker attack. The attackers managed to steal the source code and proprietary information.

The company said hackers were able to access the developer environment through one of the compromised employee accounts, but were unable to steal user passwords.

Allan Liska, an analyst on the Computer Security Incident Response Team at cybersecurity company Recorded Future, told Bloomberg that LastPass responded quickly to the incident, but it will take time to determine the exact extent of the damage. He added:

It is unlikely that the stolen source code will give criminals access to customer passwords.

LastPass is the world's most popular password manager. According to Bloomberg, the service is used by more than 33 million people and over 100,000 companies.
