The country launched 11 environmentally-friendly energy projects.

The UAE reported on the results in the field of development of green energy. The country has launched 11 environmentally-friendly energy projects worth more than AED159 billion ($43 billion) in 2022, said Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure.

According to Al Mazrouei, UAE's 2021 clean energy production was 7,035 MW. Its share in the energy balance of the country amounted to 19.63%. In addition, the UAE is also developing renewable energy sources (12%) and increasing nuclear power generation (7.55%).

The minister also spoke about the changes in the National Energy Strategy 2050. He said that the UAE has significant potential in the field of solar energy. This will ensure the energetic security of the country and will play a key role in achieving carbon neutrality. In addition, the authorities have developed the National Hydrogen Strategy, which will become part of the National Energy Strategy 2050 for the development of sustainable energy sources.

Al Mazrouei also mentioned the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Baraka. This project will increase electricity generation by 1400 MW. After launching all the reactors it will offset 22.4 million tons of carbon emissions.

In 2017, the UAE launched the National Energy Strategy 2050. According to the program, by 2050, clean energy sources will become leaders in electricity generation. Their share will be 44%, gas energy will take 38%, coal - 12%, and nuclear energy - 6%. The authorities plan to spend up to AED600 billion on the program.
