Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, announced that the UAE wants to be among the nations with the highest number of software coders per capita.

The key is to upskill and enable local talent to ensure that waves of change do not sink us but allow us to go the distance,

said Al Olama on the sidelines of the launch of the ‘National Digital Talent Program’, curated by the second-biggest bank in the UAE Emirates NBD.

The program aims to support the UAE government’s National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, which focuses on developing a national workforce versed in AI.

This will also be a starting point to make the UAE the most diverse, the most empowered, the most enabled country and ensuring we have the highest number of coders per capita and the highest number of tech-enabled Emirati citizens in the world,

Al Olama said, promising that the program will train more than 300 Emirati talent over the next four years with the skills and practical knowledge needed in digital information technologies.

To launch the ‘National Digital Talent Program’ Emirates NBD has already signed a MoU with the Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications Office, Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) and the University of Sharjah (UoS).

Supporting the Coders HQ’s mission will also be among the activities of the bank aimed at attracting global talent to set up their base in the UAE. The bank will provide more than 20 real-world business challenges through structured events, including coding hackathons, design and test hacks, and deliver at least 40 curated learning interventions.
