Recently, Gulf nations have been blanketed with dust, with users taking pictures of unusual Blade-runner like scenes.

Although sandstorms are not unusual in the region, everytime they bring much trouble to the cities, as visibility drops to just a few meters and air pollution reaches “apocalyptic” levels, according to the Plume air quality app ranking.

So how can you protect from sandstorms? Experts say, you should take the following steps.

  • Check weather forecast frequently and monitor air pollution. Pume air quality app may be helpful.
  • Try to stay indoors and keep doors and windows shut. During the sandstorm season it is better to keep windows closed during the night as dust may arrive unexpectedly.
  • If you life in a villa, don't leave anything outside, since it will be covered with sand then.
  • Roll up carpets and rugs - this will save you the hassle of cleaning up the mess later. However, if you would rather not roll the carpets, a plastic sheet on top works just as well.
  • Use an air purifier at home and wear a face mask outside, since it will the dust much time to settle down.
  • Stay hydrated. Sandstorms mostly happen during extremely dry and hot summers. Keeping yourself hydrated will help you stay refreshed and energized throughout the day.
