UAE-based BEDU has launched a metaverse project called 2117, inspired by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to establish the first colony on Mars, Arab News reported.

According to BEDU director general Amin Alzarouni, the name of the project 2117 refers to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's 2017 statement that the first colony on Mars would be built in a hundred years.

BEDU intends to build a complete world on Mars, including homes, hotels, entertainment venues, schools, universities and medical facilities, aligned with Mohammed bin Rashid's Space Centre Space Plan for Mars, which provides the data needed to create a realistic environment.

Alzarouni said the firm's name was related to the Bedouins, who lead a nomadic lifestyle. He added:

They nomads basically discovered the land here, discovered Earth, and now we are going to continue discovering different areas, and the next destination is Mars.

The metaverse is expected to launch in December with a take-off from Earth. Users will travel through space for seven months until they land on Mars.

Access to the metaverse will be for a fee.  The sale will take place in two stages. The first sale, which will be private, will be 0.2117 ETH. During the second sale, which will be public, the price will be 0.25 ETH.
