Recent rumors from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggest that Apple is considering integrating a camera into a future version of its Apple TV, potentially revolutionizing the FaceTime experience for users.

The speculation follows the addition of a FaceTime app to tvOS 17, which currently relies on a connected iPhone or iPad for video calls.

With an integrated camera, users would no longer need external devices for video calls, offering greater convenience and simplicity. Gurman hints at the possibility of gesture-based controls, possibly building on the hand gesture features introduced in recent updates like iOS 17 and tvOS 17. These controls could add an interactive element to the Apple TV experience, although specifics remain undisclosed.

In addition to the potential camera integration, Apple is reportedly exploring the concept of a "lightweight smart display" for home use. This device, resembling a low-end iPad, could be portable and easily moved between rooms, serving as a versatile hub for various household functions. While Apple has initiated small-scale production tests for these screens, no firm decisions have been made regarding their release.

While Gurman previously suggested the possibility of a new Apple TV release in the first half of 2024, it remains uncertain whether this speculated camera integration will be included in that iteration or in a later model.
