In a recent exclusive interview with the Financial Times, Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, revealed significant milestones for the messaging app, indicating its profitability and potential plans for an initial public offering (IPO).

Telegram has reached an impressive 900 million monthly active users, a significant increase from 500 million users in early 2021. Durov disclosed that the platform has been steadily generating "hundreds of millions of dollars" in revenue since introducing advertising and premium subscription services two years ago.

Durov expressed optimism about Telegram's financial future, stating that the company aims to achieve profitability either by the end of this year or in the following year. In addition, he emphasized Telegram's commitment to remaining independent, citing the desire to avoid acquisition offers that have valued the platform at over $30 billion.

Looking ahead, Telegram is considering an IPO as a means to democratize access to its value and further solidify its independence. The company has already raised approximately $2 billion in debt financing through bond offerings and is exploring various options for future fundraising, including the possibility of involving loyal users in stock allocations.

Telegram plans to expand its advertising initiatives globally and introduce revenue-sharing arrangements with channel creators. Additionally, new features such as business accounts and a "social discovery" function are set to enhance user engagement and monetization opportunities.

With global elections unfolding, Telegram aims to enhance its moderation processes and implement AI-driven mechanisms to address potential issues. These strategic moves underscore Telegram's commitment to sustainable growth and responsible platform management in the evolving landscape of digital communication.
